A rug is one of the most influential components in your living room. Depending on the size, style and shape that you choose, the room will also display a rather similar aura. Comparing the Rug and Your Living Room
Do you want the rug to be the main highlight of the room or would you prefer it complimenting other decors and fixtures? Fur rugs are also very catchy and can serve as a source of warmth and beauty.
However, if you prefer to put emphasize on other great items in your living room like a chandelier, paintings or your sofa, you may want to pick rugs with more subdued patterns. Choose colors that provide a nice contrast with your quality decors and pieces. White, beige and brown will look with adequate lighting from your beautiful chandelier or tall French windows.
Give attention to color and pattern. A simple rule to follow is that at least one color of the rug compliments the colors of other things in your living room. If you have a solid white sofa with dark wood trims, you can invest in brown fur rugs or solid gray ones that brings out the sofa better. The color rule can also be applied effectively on floors. Make a nice contrast with your floor color. The floor-rug separation will create a more symmetrical appearance.
As for the shape of your living room rug, make sure that there is enough floor space around it. Avoid getting very big rugs which you may need to fold at certain ends since it already hits the wall. The fabric of the rug may also be determined by the type of flooring you have. If your floor is patterned, plainer rugs are recommended and vice-versa.

How many rugs do you need? A single rug will make a very nice and clean appearance. A large living room can be separated by two or more rugs. You may allocate different highlights for each area you’re separating. The color and patterns should stay consistent and complimentary to prevent the room from looking cluttered. When using more than one rug, one should have the largest size. This will be your focal point or area. Choose complimentary rugs that will maintain the consistency and integrity of the whole living room.
Check the durability of your rug as well. There are rug types that last longer compared to others like wool. You may want to pick materials that are easier to clean if you have pets or children at home. Ask for a trial period from your dealer to check the rug thoroughly. Assess the material, dye quality and size. If you’re getting a foreign expensive rug, check the labels certified by the Federal Trade Commission to know which country it came from.
