Kitchen decorating shouldn’t be painful. In fact, it should be something you’ll look forward to doing. You also don’t have to break the bank in order to give your kitchen more oomph and style. There are a lot of easy and inexpensive tricks you can use at very little cost. Here are some of them:
Don’t hire a painter. Be one. The first step in decorating your kitchen is by adding a fresh new coat of paint. Paint the walls, ceiling and kitchen cabinets. You can rejuvenate a tired kitchen by simply using a brush and a few cans of paint and varnish. Want to add more interesting finishes? Choose from ready-to-use faux finishes, gloss and glazing or get your hands working on a brand new look with the use of cloth or a piece of sponge. How your kitchen walls and ceiling will look is really just limited by your imagination.
Recycle and reuse. Always on the look out for great bargain buys and garage sales? Include tablecloths, great-looking sheets and quilts for use in your kitchen. Choose the right colors and prints that will coordinate well with your kitchen’s design. Buying used cloths is an inexpensive way of softening the way your kitchen looks without having to spend a lot.
Got an old but still usable vase you can’t part with? Use it to hold spatulas and other cooking utensils in one place. Want a focal point to hang from the ceiling? Pick up an old chandelier from a yard sale, restore and hang. It will provide much needed light and décor but will not interfere with your work in the kitchen.
Use light to your advantage. By simply adding or changing lights in your kitchen, you can create a brighter looking space without spending a lot. Light bulbs are inexpensive tools for decorating that can completely change the appearance of your kitchen. Use light to focus on the cooking area, for example and provide better visual for practicality. Or you can use mini lights under your kitchen cabinets for a more interesting look.
Build a bar. If you have a kitchen counter, you can use this to double as a bar. Simply purchase two or three inexpensive bar stools from a local store or pick up some from a garage sale and prop them up. It’s a great way of providing more space for socials and bringing people together in your kitchen area.
A place to hang Need more space for your kitchen stuff? No need to build new cabinets for storage. Get a few inexpensive hooks and shelving units you can attach to the walls or hang from the ceiling. These are great storage ideas that are easy to put up and use. In terms of visuals, they also provide you easy access every time you need a pot, pan, kettle or utensil.
Get fresh. A nice way to decorate your kitchen area is by adding vases filled with cut flowers on a corner of the countertop or by the windowsill. You can also get a wide bowl and fill it with fresh fruits and vegetables. These add a natural touch to your kitchen, are quite inexpensive to get and are also practical. When you need them for meals and food preparation, simply take a few and replace them later on.
